Beyond the Scale - Size Inclusive Doula Training
Every pregnant person deserves compassionate, evidence-based care in the body they have right now.
Yet too many people in larger bodies enter pregnancy and birth carrying the weight of stigma, assumptions, and medical bias alongside their growing baby. They are told what is wrong with their bodies instead of being supported in what is possible.
At Big Fat Pregnancy, I believe that changing birth experiences requires more than empowering patients. We must also equip providers with the knowledge, skills, and self-awareness to recognize and address anti-fat bias in healthcare.
That's why I created Beyond the Scale.
This interactive training is designed for birth workers, healthcare providers, and anyone who supports pregnant people. Together, we'll explore how weight stigma shows up in pregnancy care, unpack common assumptions about body size and health, examine current research, and learn practical strategies for providing truly size-inclusive care.
Before the live workshop, you'll receive access to two short pre-recorded lessons that lay the foundation for our work together. Then we'll spend four hours diving deeper into the realities of weight bias, challenging long-held beliefs, and building skills you can immediately bring back to your practice.
You'll leave with:
A deeper understanding of anti-fat bias and its impact on pregnancy and birth outcomes
Evidence-based knowledge about body size, health, and pregnancy
Practical tools for providing respectful, weight-inclusive care
Actionable changes you can implement right away
Connection and community with other providers committed to doing better
This training isn't about blame or shame. It's about curiosity, growth, and creating a birth culture where every person feels seen, respected, and supported.
Because fat people shouldn't have to fight for compassionate care.
Together, we can build something better.
